Networking Workshop:

'Learning the Art of the Informational Interview'

Wednesday, April 28, 2010

Connecting with other professionals is a vital skill for succeeding in the world of science and technology.  One of the most powerful ways to get information – and, studies show, one of the most effective approaches to landing a job – is to sit down with individuals and find out more about what they do. These 'informational interviews' are a great way to learn about different types of positions, get your name out in the business community, and meet new, interesting people.

This lively, interactive three hour workshop will focus on improving your ability to ask for informational interviews and make them productive.  It will take the mystery out of a key aspect of networking, and teach you concrete skills for reaching out to others so you can achieve your full potential. In this session, you will learn:

  • How to grow your network strategically
  • Make the most of your conversations
  • Set achievable interviewing goals
  • What to do – and what not to do – to connect with someone

  • Best ways to approach someone you don't know well

Workshop Leader:
