Both Sides of Negotiating Equal Pay
#
WESTnegotiate

Sometimes you are the employee negotiating a new job, raise, or end of year bonus. Other times, you are the manager negotiating those same things on behalf of your employer. Regardless of your role, your actions impact the equality of the ultimate compensation decision. Both Sides of Negotiating Equal Pay teaches you how some of the best practices in hiring, promotion, and review processes prevent achieving pay equity, ironically by assuming equality already exists. More importantly this workshop will share what you can do in both roles to close gender and other pay gaps.

By the end of this session you will

  1. Know how to minimize unconscious bias in your negotiations as a manager,
  2. Know how market research data creates a false sense of objectivity,
  3. Know how to keep the negotiations conversational yet empowering as a candidate or employee, and
  4. Practice what you learned in a role play exercise.

About the Speaker - Katie Donovan

Katie Donovan is the founder of Equal Pay Negotiations, a pay equity expert, and speaker.  Her work focuses on knowing the value of the job, not the person, and the unintended biases in hiring, promotion, and review processes. Donovan awakened awareness and a movement when she introduced banning salary history questions to close the gender pay gap in 2012.  Eleven states and nine local jurisdictions have since implemented restrictions and bans through law and executive orders. Donovan conducts process audits to remove institutional barriers to achieving equity and consults with women and men at all levels of experience and in all industries to negotiate equitable employment packages.  Donovan has presented at numerous events for Harvard, Yale, NASDAQ, American Academy of Neurology, Women in Construction, Association of Corporate Counsel, and Hallmark.  Donovan is a frequently sought-after expert by the media including Time, Hollywood Reporter, Washington Post, BBC, Forbes, NPR, Huffington Post, Cosmopolitan, NECN, WBZ, and more.  Follow Donovan on Twitter @KDSalaryCoach.
