You are invited to the third annual Women Entrepreneurs in Science and Technology Leadership Awards party celebrating women who have demonstrated notable entrepreneurial leadership in science and technology.  Join the festivities and meet the honorees who are talented innovators who have achieved entrepreneurial success either within larger organizations, or in starting their own companies. They are an inspiration to others.


Join us for an exciting party! Come honor women and entrepreneurship at WEST's biggest party of the year. The evening's celebration include inspirational stories, networking with influential leaders in science technology, a spectacular view overlooking the Charles River, and refreshments. Everyone is welcome to attend.   

 

2010 Leadership Awardees:


  • Mara Aspinall is President and CEO of On-Q-ity, Inc., a diagnostics company dedicated to improving the treatment of individual cancer patients through real time, non-invasive monitoring to better target therapy and lower costs. Previously, Mara was President of Genzyme Genetics, where she restructured the business from generic drug manufacturing to value-added custom production, while building a new international management team that created more than 25% annual profitable growth. Under her leadership, the company successfully completed and integrated multiple acquisitions, expanded research and development, launched more than two dozen new products and initiated new programs for community outreach and education. Mara has been on the Board of Predictive Biosciences since its inception, serving as Chairman the past year. She is also a Board member of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts. Mara is a Lecturer in Health Care Policy at Harvard Medical School and teaches a seminar on medicine and business. She recently co-authored, "Realizing the Promise of Personalized Medicine" in Harvard Business Review.
  • Katrine Bosley is CEO of Avila Therapeutics, a biopharmaceutical company focused on the design and development of targeted covalent drugs. She joined Avila from Adnexus Therapeutics where she served as Vice President, Business Development and later as Vice President, Strategic Operations. There she established an alliance with Bristol-Myers Squibb that evolved into their acquisition of Adnexus in a transaction valued at over $505 million. During her career Katrine has worked with products from discovery through commercialization, including Avonex®, Tysabri®, and the emerging Adnectin™ class of targeted biologics, and has led a variety of strategic transactions. She was at Biogen Idec for many years in business development (US, Europe), commercial operations and portfolio strategy (US).  Prior to that, Katrine held positions with Highland Capital Partners, a venture capital firm, and with Alkermes, a biotech company.  She is a graduate of Cornell University and the Program for Management Development at Harvard Business School.
  • Nancy Briefs is the President and CEO of Elemé Medical Inc, an aesthetics company that provides technology in body shaping, including SmoothShapes® XV which treats cellulite. A serial entrepreneur, she has lead the development of technologies at Percardia, Vista Medical Technologies, Stryker, Target Therapeutics, Collagen, Oximetrix (Abbott) and American Edwards Laboratories. In June 2003 she received the Ernst & Young award for “New England Entrepreneur of the Year (EOY) for Emerging Companies."  Nancy Briefs was the first female Chairperson of the Medical Device Manufacturers Association (MDMA), and an inventor on four issued and three pending U.S. patents related to cardiovascular innovations. She holds an MBA in Finance & Marketing from Golden Gate University.
  • Sue Welch, founder and CEO of TradeStone Software, is an established leader in designing technology for retailers and suppliers involved in global sourcing and private label initiatives. She has founded three successful companies, each one delivering increasingly more sophisticated software to handle the complexities of international trade transactions. Welch and the teams she’s led have been responsible for many industry firsts: In 1984 she delivered the first PC-based import software to the global market. At her second company, she launched the first Windows-based sourcing software. After selling that company for more than $100 million, she formed TradeStone, which has delivered the first Web-based composite application for global sourcing.  In addition to leading TradeStone, Welch is a frequent speaker, addressing such organizations as the World Trade Organization, the Bankers Association for Finance and Trade, the ICC and the National Retail Federation. She has been celebrated for her innovation in the industry by such publications as Fortune and World Trade Magazine, in which she was named as one of the 50 most influential executives.
