Managing Up: Strategies to Confidently Ask for What You Need

Asking our managers for feedback, support or opportunities can feel daunting. Fears of having our requests rejected, undermining our working relationships, or being seen as less capable can have a chilling effect on our willingness to ask for what we need. But it doesn’t have to be this way. With the right mindset and communication strategies, you can effectively and confidently manage up and advocate for yourself.

In this session, we will:

  • Define what it means to manage up and why it’s so important, not just to you but to your manager
  • Identify common challenges that keep us from managing up
  • Explore actionable strategies you can use to more confidently and effectively communicate your needs to your manager
