Description:

If you would like to serve on a corporate board, are already on a board, or work with a board, please join us for Get on Board!  The panelists are directors of both public and privately held companies, and will address issues relating to service as directors of for-profit companies, including the combinations of skills and experiences that boards are seeking, how to best position yourself for a board candidacy, resources available to help you identify and take advantage of board opportunities, major issues to consider in the process, what it’s like to serve on different types of boards, and issues particular to women.   There will be plenty of time for questions following the panel discussion.  Speakers include: 

 

  • Alison Taunton-Rigby, PhD, OBE, is Founder, President and CEO of RiboNovix, Inc., an early stage biotechnology company.  Prior to this, Dr. Taunton-Rigby was President and CEO of several companies including: Aquila Biopharmaceuticals, Inc., Cambridge Biotech Corporation, and Mitotix Inc., and was Senior Vice President, Biotherapeutics, at Genzyme Corporation. Dr. Taunton-Rigby received her doctorate in chemistry from the University of Bristol in England, and is a graduate of the Advanced Management Program of the Harvard Business School.  She is a Director of RiverSource Funds, Healthways, Inc., Abt Associates, Inc., Idera Pharmaceuticals, Inc., the Massachusetts Women's Forum, and The Children's Hospital Boston. In 2002 Dr. Taunton-Rigby was awarded the OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) by Queen Elizabeth II for her work as a leader in biotechnology.
  • Rose Ann Giordano is President of Thomis Partners, a private investment and advisory services firm. She serves on the Board of Directors of Dataram Inc. a NASDAQ company, TimeTrade Inc., the National Association of Corporate Directors/ New England, Common Angels, Emerson Hospital and the MIT Enterprise Forum/NE. She previously served on the Board of Directors of GeoEnvironmental Technologies (GZA), Inc., a NASDAQ company, Elderhostel, Trinity College of Vermont. Prior to this, she served as Vice President of Worldwide Sales & Marketing for the Customer Services Division at Compaq Computer Corporation,  and worldwide Vice President of Compaq’s Telecom Group. At Digital Equipment Corporation, Ms. Giordano starting up Digital’s Internet Business, and was Vice President of the Software business. Prior to Digital, she held marketing and sales management positions at Xerox Data Systems and was a member of the technical staff at Bell Telephone Laboratories. Giordano is a summa cum laude graduate in mathematics from Marywood College, and a graduate of the Stanford University Business School Executive Program.
  • Christine Cournoyer is President and Chief Operating Officer of Picis, Inc., a global provider of information solutions. Prior to this, she was managing director of Harte-Hanks, Inc. and president and COO at Lightbridge, Inc. She has also held senior management positions at IBM including vice president of business transformation, vice president of customer operations and technology, and CIO of the software group. Previously she served as ae president at Lotus Development Corp. Cournoyer earned a master’s degree in economics from Northeastern University and attended MIT’s Executive Education Program. Cournoyer was named one of the ten most influential women in technology by Busi senior vicness Week and serves on the board of directors for BJ’s Wholesale Club, Inc.
  • Tamara Davis is managing director of the Corporate Governance Practice at Levin & Company which provides governance consulting and Board development services.   Tamara consults to publicly held and private corporate Boards and recruits Board Director candidates. Prior to this, she was was President, Chief Executive Officer and Board Director of UST Leasing Corporation, an investment banking/financial services company. Currently, she is Chairman of the Massachusetts State College Building Authority, Trustee of Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering, and Overseer of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.  Previously, she was a Board Director of Uno Restaurant Corporation, a NYSE company, and MuseumShop.com, an early-stage, private e-commerce. company.
  • Toni Wolfman (Moderator) is Executive in Residence, Executive Education and Women’s Leadership Institute at Bentley University. She is a director of and leads the corporate board search effort for The Boston Club (New England’s largest organization of business and professional women), is the immediate past President of ION (a national network of organizations dedicated to advancing women to corporate leadership positions), leads Women Corporate Directors–Boston (public company directors who meet periodically to share perspectives on corporate governance issues), and is an active member of the New England Chapter of NACD.  For many years, she was a director of the Center for Women & Enterprise (the largest entrepreneurial training organization in New England).  From 1977 through 2004, Toni practiced law with Foley Hoag LLP in Boston as a partner in its litigation department. Toni is a graduate of Smith College and the University of Pennsylvania Law School.  She is a member of the Smith College Board of Trustees.
