Project Management 101

Description

In this 3-hour interactive workshop, you will prepare yourself to run a small or large project team, and you will learn specific tools to help launch, manage, and track your projects' progress. From simple timelines to responsibility matrices to strategies for financial planning, you will gain experience in key techniques and how to best implement them in order to ensure success for your projects. You will learn the techniques and tools effective program managers use to:

Align and organize teams
Track projects
Provide senior management visibility on project progress

Who Should Attend

This participatory workshop is designed for those working in the life science and technology industries, including IT, biopharma, and medical device companies. Attendees who will benefit most are scientists, engineers, entrepreneurs, project managers initiating new projects, or those whose on-going projects need a kick start.

Workshop Leaders

Marie Keaveney Ph.D. obtained her doctorate in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the National University of Ireland, Galway. She completed post-doctoral fellowships at the European Molecular Biology Lab in Heidelberg and at Harvard Medical School, where she studied mammalian and yeast transcriptional regulatory mechanisms. Following this she moved into the biotechnology/pharmaceutical area where she has more than 10 years of experience as an accomplished scientist and program manager. She worked for over 7 years in the drug discovery organization at Millennium Pharmaceuticals. She then transitioned to program management and joined Ironwood Pharmaceuticals in 2006. Following this she joined Archemix Corp. as a Senior Project Manager where she was responsible for managing a portfolio of internal and alliance aptamer therapeutic programs in discovery, preclinical and clinical stages of development. She just recently joined Aileron Therapeutics as Head of Discovery Program Management.

Emily Walsh Ph.D. began her career at the bench, receiving her doctorate in genetics at UCSF through support of a Howard Hughes Medical Institute fellowship. After a postdoctoral fellowship in human genetics with Eric Lander at the Broad Institute, she transitioned into the pharmaceutical industry where she has held a number of roles including project management and leadership responsibilities in the Novartis Drug Discovery Incubator at the Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research. Most recently she was responsible for business, financial, alliance and scientific program management across a number of programs at Alnylam Pharmaceuticals. These responsibilities included managing a flagship program which is partnered with Cubist Pharmaceuticals and Kyowa Hakko Kirin. Emily left Alnylam in late 2009 to found her own therapeutic biotechnology company.
