Description:
Leading, managing, and working in teams are critical skills for success in any business environment, including starting a company or advancing in a larger organization. In fact, very little is accomplished in science and technology that does not involve teams of some sort. This panel discussion covers important topics such as building teams, being a good team player, and how to negotiate and influence others without direct authority – important tools in any endeavor. Panelists include:
- Barbara Rosengren is Vice President, Strategic Product Development at Momenta Pharmaceuticals. Previously she was Vice President & Development Project Leader at Millennium Pharmaceuticals where she led the project management activities for the Inflammation franchise including co-development activities with Millennium’s partners in this field. Barbara also serves as a guest faculty instructor in the Project Management courses at Massachusetts Biotechnology Council and the Harvard Extension School. She also held positions at Sandoz and subsequently Novartis Pharmaceuticals in a variety of commercial and project management positions for both the global and US business.
- Beth Friday is Vice President, WorldWide Client Support at IBM, where she has global responsibility for client (technical) support and product quality for IBM Rational Software. Previously, she was Vice President of Technical Support & Product Training for Pure Atria, and Manager of Customer Support at Applix, Inc. and Access Technology. She is also currently executive sponsor of the IBM New England Women's Network whose mission is to promote career development and leadership of females in the technical industry.
- Maria DeSantis Harden is Senior Director, Program Management at Archemix Corp., a privately-held biotechnology company working to develop aptamer-based therapeutics. Maria directs project, alliance, and portfolio management functions for Archemix’s discovery and development stage programs. Prior to this, Maria held project leadership and management roles at Millennium Pharmaceuticals, Infinity Pharmaceuticals, and Genentech. Previously, she served in both engineering and management roles in medical device product development. Maria holds a M.S. in Engineering Management from the Gordon Institute, Tufts University and a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Boston University.
- Susan Loconto Penta is a Founding Partner at MIDIOR Consulting where she works with clients in the financial services, industrial product, and technology sectors to build high performing cross-functional teams and break down organizational and cultural barriers to create a common product perspective. Susan has authored numerous articles on product development, entrepreneurship and innovation and is an Adjunct Faculty member of Northeastern University’s College of Business. She has received multiple honors, including the Boston Business Journal “40 under 40” award and the WPI Ichabod Washburn Young Alumni Award for Professional Achievement. She holds a BSEE degree from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and an MBA from The CASS Business School in London, England
