"HOLIDAY PARTY & NETWORKING EVENT"

HONORING THOSE WHO "GIVE BACK"

Thurs., Jan. 22, 2009

6:00pm-9:00pm

Description:
Join WEST for the annual "Holiday Party & Networking Event" in January to celebrate Women, Entrepreneurs, Science and Technology.  The theme this year is "Giving Back", and we'll be celebrating those who help others in science and technology. There will be good food and formal and informal networking opportunities with other WEST members.

Examples of "Giving Back":

  • Nina Dudnik, PhD is the founder and Executive Director of Seeding Labs, a nonprofit that re-purposes surplus laboratory equipment from research institutions in the greater Boston area and provides it at low cost to researchers in developing countries. Seeding Labs connects members of the scientific community across international borders, reduces waste, and ensures that talented scientists abroad can address the critical problems facing their communities.
  • Carol Yamartino, Principal of The Yamartino Group, has used her coaching and leadership development skills to help support women in life sciences for over a decade, both as Senior Director of Learning & Development at Millennium Pharmaceuticals where she was responsible for women’s development, and also by designing and implementing a successful group mentoring program for the Boston Chapter of the Healthcare Businesswoman’s Association (HBA), where she is also the President-Elect for 2009.
  • Yelena Wetherill, PhD, a postdoctoral fellow in cancer biology at Dana-Farber, used her entrepreneurial and technical skills to organize a three-day symposium on breast cancer education in Russia, where every second woman diagnosed with breast cancer dies (largely due to late stage diagnosis).  She is also forming a non-profit foundation "Women's Health Exchange" that would specifically focus on breast cancer/breast health education programs for under-served women around the world.
