"TO MBA OR NOT TO MBA:
PROS AND CONS OF OBTAINING A BUSINESS DEGREE

Description:
Many people in science and technology wonder whether or not they need an MBA, or how a business degree might advance their careers. This panel discussion event will consider the pros and cons of getting a Masters in Business Administration degree for those who are scientists or engineers. Speakers include successful women in business who either chose to obtain MBAs, or who have succeeded without them.
Speakers include:
- Rujuta Bhatt Srivastava, MD is Senior Director, Corporate Development at Millennium Pharmaceuticals, Inc. where she is involved with mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and negotiation of licensing deals. In 2007 she received the Health Care Business Women's Association Rising Star Award. She earned her MD from Harvard Medical School, and an M.Phil. in international relations from the University of Oxford on a Rhodes Scholarship.
- Priya Iyer, MBA is President of Anaqua, a company that markets intellectual asset management software and services. Prior that that she was responsible for operations at Steelpoint Technologies, a managing partner at AGENCY.COM where she founded and grew a financial services practice, and has held senior positions at Bell Labs and Foxboro Systems. She holds a masters in computer science and an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management where she was a Sloan Fellow.
- Cissy Young, PhD, MBA is Associate Director, Strategy and Business Development at Tempo Pharmaceuticals, a biotechnology company, where she spearheads corporate strategic initiatives for business development. Prior to this she was Director of Business Development at TetraLogic Pharmaceuticals, and a licensing officer at Penn State University's technology transfer office. She has a PhD in cancer biology from Columbia University and an MBA from Penn State University.
- Ann Westerheim, PhD is Founder and President of Ekaru a company that provides IT services. Prior to that she was co-founder and VP of Marketing and Product Development at an internet software company, and has held senior level technical positions at Digital Equipment Corporation and Intel Corporation. in advanced development of microprocessors and network communication chips. She has two US patents and over 20 technical publications, in advanced development of microprocessors. She holds a masters and PhD in engineering from MIT.

- Teresa Nelson, PhD is Elizabeth J. McCandless Professor of Entrepreneurship at Simmons School of Management. Her research focuses on the governance and growth of high potential firms, including the role of women as founders and top team members.She holds a Ph.D. in business administration from the University of Illinois.
