Join WEST for the annual "Holiday Party & Networking Event" in January to celebrate Women, Entrepreneurs, Science and Technology.  The theme of the party is 'Giving Back', and we'll be celebrating those who help others in science and technology. There will be good food, as well as formal and informal networking opportunities with other WEST members. This event is open to the public. Everyone is welcome to attend!  


Celebrating Three Who "Give Back":


Jean Hammond is Founder & Principal, JPH Associates, advising early stage high-tech start-ups. She is an active angel investor and was a co-founder of the Boston branch of Golden Seeds (which invests in women-managed businesses) and a member of Launchpad and Hub Angels. Ms. Hammond serves on the boards of The Capital Network, Thompson Island Outward Bound and Boston Rising. She is a serial entrepreneur with over 20 years experience. She co-founded Quarry Technologies with a core team from the BBN Technologies/GTE Internetworking SuperRouter project, serving as Quarry's start-up CEO. Ms. Hammond also co-founded AXON Networks, a developer of network management applications. Following 3Com's acquisition of AXON, she was responsible for 3Com's WAN strategy. She plays or has played an active board or board advisor role with over 20 of her Boston-area investments. Ms Hammond earned an MS from the MIT Sloan School of Management where she is currently a part-time Entrepreneur-in-Residence. and a B.S. from Boston University.

 

Janice Bourque is Managing Director Life Sciences, Hercules Technology Growth Capital and WEST Chair Emeritus. Ms Bourque is former Senior Vice President and Group Head-Life Sciences for Comerica Bank where she was responsible for leading Comerica’s national strategy for the life sciences. Prior to that, Ms. Bourque was President/CEO of the Massachusetts Biotechnology Council (MBC) where she led the organization for 12 years. Under her leadership, the MBC membership grew from 80 to over 400 organizations with revenue increasing from $500,000 to over $4.1 million.  Ms. Bourque created multiple services, policy initiatives and the Education Foundation (MassBioEd) that focused on science education, workforce training and public awareness. Ms. Bourque has held several previous senior managerial positions, including CFO of Cambridge Medical Technology Corporation, senior public accountant for Coopers & Lybrand Emerging and Middle Market Group, and as a NASA Space Science grant project manager for the first satellite payloads to be repaired by the space shuttle missions. Ms. Bourque was a member of Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney’s Transition Team. She is currently serving on the Board of Directors of the Boston History Collaborative. In 2004, she was awarded the Woman of Valor Award by the American Diabetes Association and the 2004 Distinguished Leadership Award by the Huntington Disease Society for her work in public policy and public health.  In 2003, Boston Magazine named her one of Boston’s 100 most influential women and the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce awarded her Business Person of the Year. Ms. Bourque received her MBA degree in finance and accounting and her BS degree in veterinary science from the University of New Hampshire.

 

June Rokoff is a Founding Member and Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of The Commonwealth Institute, an organization dedicated to helping women CEO’s, entrepreneurs and senior corporate executives build successful companies. She has recently been a consultant specializing in coaching high technology management. As Senior Vice President of Lotus' Worldwide Services Group until December 1995, Ms. Rokoff had worldwide responsibility for the company's service businesses, including consulting services, education and training, and the Lotus Institute. She held several executive positions at Lotus, including General Manager of Lotus' Workstation Products Group and General Manager of Lotus 1-2-3 Release 3. She was promoted to Vice President of the Graphics and Information Management Division in 1989 and to Senior Vice President in 1991. In 1993, she became Senior Vice President of the Software Business Group, and co-managed all product development at Lotus. Ms. Rokoff was profiled in a NY Times article in 1994 which referred to her as ‘The Iron Lady’ and ‘St June.’ She was identified in the June 8, 1992 edition of Business Week as one of the top women executives in the United States. She was the 1992 New England Women’s Leadership Award Recipient for achievement in business. In 1998, Ms. Rokoff was inducted into the Academy of Women Achievers by the YWCA. She was recently on the board of the New England Chapter of the National Association of Corporate Directors and co-chaired the Commission on Jewish Continuity. In 1994 and 1995, she chaired The New England Women’s Leadership Awards, which benefits the Boys and Girls Club and focuses public attention on the achievements of women, and has served as Honorary Chair of this event for a number of years. Ms. Rokoff earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics and computer science from State University of New York in Albany. In 1994 she received an Honorary Doctorate of Commercial Science from Bentley College.
